Wednesday update

Sorry it has been almost a week since last update. Things have been going really well since they took baby off of the seizure meds. They check her levels Monday and they weren't quite low enough yet to realease her. They will check them again on tomorrow and if the amt of meds in her system is 10 or below (don't know what this all means, just passing on the info) then they can send her home!!!!

Sister, Husband and baby really need to be home as a family so please pray hard that everything continues to go as well as it has over the last week.

God has really taken care of all of them and I know He will continue!

God is good, all the time!!!!

Thursday's update

The doctors did an ultrasound of baby's brain yesterday and found some abnormalities in the white matter and wanted to do an MRI for further review.

The MRI was done today and it came back normal! They have also taken her off of her seizure meds yesterday. Although they said that it will take a few days to completely leave her system, she is doing well so far. The doctors are wanting to be sure she shouldn't be on the meds anymore. They said that the chance of anymore seizures is very low! and most likely some sort of stress caused them in the first place.

Since my sister wasn't with the baby at the time and since we can't go back in time, there isn't anyway to specifically pinpoint the cause of the seizure.

Things are going well and continue to do so. She is getting stronger everyday. Thanks for your continued prayers!

Tuesday's glorious update

My sister and her baby are doing so much better! Baby was moved to a "step-down" unit in the NICU. It is a room with a bed, rocker and baby bed. Sister can stay there 24/7 to nurse and be the main care giver for the baby (with nurses very close by at all times). She is unhooked from everything except for the heart monitor which we were told she would be on until she was released.

We got the results from the brain scan back a day early! Whoo Hoo....the scans were normal!

Baby's weight had gone down to 5lbs 5 oz and now she is back up to 5 lbs 12 oz and is nursing better.

My mom had to head back home but she got to hold the baby a little yesterday and today as well before she left.

"Praise God from whom all blessings flow..." This is what I continue to sing! Thanks again to everyone!

Monday afternoon

Thanks again to everyone for their prayers! We have definitely felt them and are so appreciative.

My sister got to nurse the baby again and hold her for a while. The dr took her IV out and they are now giving her seizure meds by mouth. The nurse seems very hopeful and positive this morning.

It has been a good day.

Monday morning

Yesterday my sister actually got to hold and feed her baby. Things are definitely getting better! Today they are going to try breast feeding again. She will have the help of the neonatal lactation specialist as well which will be a huge help!

My sister gets to go see her baby!!!

My sister has been discharged from the hospital and gets to go see her baby soon. God is so good.

Sun am update on baby

Just got the result from the ultrasound of the brain yesterday. Baby has some swelling on her brain. They will do another ultrasound on Wed to see if the swelling has gone down. The swelling could have caused the seizure. We do not know what caused the swelling.

Friday night-Sun morning updates on my sister and her new baby

I am editing the names and using sister and baby since this is a more public forum.

Here is what is currently going on with my sister and her baby. They could use a lot of prayer right now.

Baby was born on Monday night 5 weeks early but was doing well. Her lungs were developed, she was a healthy weight (5 lbs 14 oz) and all in all, things were going so well.

Friday night-
Sister was released from the hospital yesterday morning but baby was not due to jaundince. They had her under the lights most of the day, but allowed sister to use her hospital room for nursing untill they needed it for another patient. Mom got there Thursday night and went up to the hospital for the first time yesterday morning.

Sister ended up being readmitted to the hospital due to her BP rising again (not sure on the # or the time). Mom fed baby at 7:30, took her back to the nursery at 8:30 and sometime between 9:30 and 10, baby aspirated-couldn't breathe-and then seized at least 2 times. They rushed her to the ICU unit at the bigger hospital in the large city nearby while sister had to stay where she was. She was given sedatives to hopefully get her BP back down since she was SO upset over what was happening. She was basically laying helpless in the hospital bed and couldn't do anything. Her husband and his mother went with baby and mom stayed with sister.

They were going to do brain scans on baby when they got her to the ICU to find out what/if any brain damage was caused and how long she was without oxygen. She does have some fluid in her lungs and they will be monitoring that as well to hopefully prevent pneumonia settling in.

Sat am-
Baby is stabilized and they have her sedated because she was getting too worked up whenever anyone touched her. We won't have the results of the brain scans back until Wednesday when the neurologist reads them.

Sat- noon
Just got an update from my mom. Sister is doing better but doc encouraged her to be up and moving in order to get the fluids out of her body to lower her BP. This is the OPPOSITE of what she has been told so hopefully she will see some improvement on herself very son and be able to be released to be with baby and husband.

We won't have the results from brain scan until at least Wed, Neonatal neurosurgeon is the one reading them and ICU pediatrician said he is the only one he trusts to read them, he is backed up until Wednesday. They are doing several other tests today that they should get the results back on soon.

The chest scans and tests for pneumonia all came back negative! Praise God. They have her on antibiotics to continue the prevention of it settling in.

They did tell sister to expect baby to stay in the hospital for 3-4 weeks. This is standard procedure given the circumstances.

As of right now, everyone is doing okay. We are still waiting on a lot of test results but the current situation is stable. We praise God for his faithfulness and continuing to look out for our family.

Sat late afternoon-
Sister's BP is down to 117-65. That is fantastic news! Still don't know when she will be released from the hospital though.

Sun am update.
God is So good.

Sister's doing much better. Last night her BP is running about 140/88 which isn't great, but MUCH better than it was.

Baby hasn't had anymore seizures so they are feeding her pedialyte by bottle now and if that goes well, they will go back to milk from the bottle (they had been feeding her by tube). She can be touched now and actually cries when they take their hands OFF of her! They have also cut back on her seizure meds that they were giving her.

This is all great news! Praise God. Thank you all again for your prayers
